Anthony A. Phillips majors in African American Studies and Philosophy at Bates College. His campus involvement includes serving as a student representative for the College Lecture Committee; student representative for the Martin Luther King Jr. planning committee; co-founder of the Sophomore Christian Male Ministry, co-president of Amandla!, a cultural organization; diversity outreach coordinator in the Office of Admissions; program assistant for the Office of Multicultural Affairs and moderator for the African American Studies Club. In his hometown of Philadelphia, Anthony co-founded the Youth Action Team, a non-profit organization that promotes civic awareness and responsibility among inner-city youth. He also sits on the Board of Directors for the non-profit teen volunteer advocacy organization Spark the Wave and has served on the Philadelphia Youth Commission steering committee. Recently Anthony was selected as one of twenty-four black male college students to participate in The Institute for Responsible Citizenship, a two-summer leadership program held at Georgetown University in Washington, DC. He desires to become a university professor.
